Crowley’s Supper Club

Savoring the Past: Introducing Crowley's Supper Club

The first supper club in the United States was established in Beverly Hills, California by Milwaukee, native Lawrence Frank.
Supper Clubs became popular during the 1930s &1940s, and some were establishments that had previously been prohibition roadhouses.
After Prohibition was repealed in 1933, liquor licenses were first granted to establishments outside city limits that served food, thus giving birth to the supper club. Supper clubs can still be found in the Upper Midwest, mainly Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

What makes a supper club a supper club? Supper clubs generally feature "simple" menus with limited "American" cuisine. Supper clubs are typically located in the country, along a state highway or byway intersection. Isn't itwonderful when you find yourself driving along a country-side road and runacross a unique spot with good food. A Supper Club in the olden days meant linen table service, liquor, and sometimes entertainment --a destination for a night out. Supper clubs usually had a lounge with high-backed booths, highballs, a piano bar, and a dance floor.

So why a Supper Club at Crowley's? The original tavern located here was opened in 1949. Crowley's is located on a country byway, has high-backed booths, a piano bar, good food and cocktails.
We want this to be your favorite destination restaurant in Pennsylvania.
